My Issue With Michael Kors

At the beginning of 2016, Michael Kors was the most popular handbag producer in North America according to Forbes. They are dominating the market and are incredibly popular with women aged 13 – 29 due to the fact that the brand is so easily accessible, in Aberdeen alone there are 7 providers of both the handbags and jewellery.

However, my issue with the brand is that, for a high end designer retailer, the quality and attention to detail is severely lacking. Michael Kors is said to be the number one most returned handbag brands due to its poor quality. There are countless cases of bags becoming misshapen, straps breaking and seams fraying after only a few months after purchase. This would be understandable from a high street retailer such as New Look or H&M, but for Michael Kors? A brand that charges hundreds of pounds for each bag? I don’t think so.

m_541e65223a3efc67ca0bc378.jpg

Further to this, in May 2016, Nordstrom announced that half of their stores would discontinue the selling of Michael Kors handbags, particularly the MICHAEL line. This is not surprising due to Kors’ history of poor craftsmanship.

For me, I am unwilling to buy into a high-end brand that cares so little about quality. If I pay hundreds of pounds for a bag I expect it to last and to be perfect, and with Kors’ track record, I wouldn’t expect much from them.

What are your opinions, would you still buy into the brand?

My 2016 Beauty Faves

With 2016 over, it’s time to look back on the year as a whole. I thought I would put together a little list of my favourite beauty products from 2016 for you guys.

1. The Beauty Killer Palette

jeffree_star_beauty_killer_palette_05

Beauty Killer Palette, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, £40

A relatively new addition to my collection, but I can safely say this is my favourite eyeshadow palette that I own. The shadows are buttery and can be easily blended, and the colours are insanely pigmented. The Beauty Killer palette has allowed me to play around with my makeup and try some more “avant-garde” looks. My favourite shadow has to be star power, the hot pink. I’ve never had a shadow like it, it just looks amazing on the eyes.

2. The Nyx Lip Lingeries

800897077945_liplingerie_frenchmaid_main

Nyx Lip Lingerie, Boots, £6.50

This year I have been dabbling in liquid lipsticks. I’ve been trying several different brands but I must say the Nyx Lingeries are my favourites thus far. The whipped formula dries completely matte and is comfortable on the lips, it doesn’t feel drying at all which is quite rare. If you’re a fan of nude lipsticks this range is definitely for you, they have the prettiest shade range and a nude to suit every skin tone!

3. My Tried and True Liquid Liner

8808_rev_amychilds_week40_11-dh-116815.jpg

Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Eye Liner, Rimmel, £5.29

Rimmel’s Glam Eyes liner is my all time favourite liner. I’m a big fan of winged liner and this particular liner has a really thin brush which means you can be very precise with your application. The formula is extremely black and doesn’t crack when it dries which means that it lasts all day.

What are your beauty favourites from 2016?

A Little January Haul

2017 is officially here and with it comes the January sales. I popped into Topshop earlier today after work and picked up a couple of bits and pieces that I thought I’d share with you all!

1. KRAZY Pointed Boot

krazy

KRAZY Pointed Boot, Topshop, £10

I have had my eye on these beauties for a while now and when I saw them in the sale for only £10 I had to get my hands on them! Winter florals are everywhere at the moment, as are statement boots, and these are the perfect mash up of the two. They have a pointed toe which I personally love as they make the feet look more elegant and dainty, and with a pair of black skinny jeans and a black cami you have a simple outfit that looks well thought out and put together – what more could you want?

2. Lace Insert Cami

TS04K05JBLK_Zoom_M_1.jpg

Lace Insert Cami, Topshop, £15

I have seen this style of cami all over Instagram for the past couple of months and I couldn’t help but to be sucked in (peer pressure and all that). I adore the simplicity of the cami and the fact that it can be dressed up for nights out, or down for a day shopping with friends! My only issue is the material, it’s made up of 95% viscose and 5% lycra, meaning it’s a really stretchy see-though material which isn’t ideal.

3. Contour Wand

ts20f24ibrn_zoom_m_2

Contour Wand in Angles, Topshop, £12

I’ve been on the hunt for a cream contour stick for a while now, so when I saw this one on the way to the checkouts I thought I’d give it a shot! I can’t say I’ve ever ventured into Toyshop’s makeup range so I’ll be interested to see if this works for me.

What have you been picking up in stores recently?

Last Minute Gift Guide

Christmas is less than a week away, and if you’re anything like my friends, you haven’t even started shopping. Luckily for you, I’ve compiled a list of ideal gifts to save you the last minute buying stress (you’re welcome).

anastasia-beverly-hills-moon-child-glow-kit-2

Moonchild Glow Kit, Anastasia Beverly Hills, £39 (Image from hellomissniki.com)

The Moonchild Glow Kit by Anastasia Beverly Hills is the highlight palette to end all highlight palettes. It boasts the most ethereal, otherworldly colours compacted into one palette and any makeup lover would be eternally grateful for this. And with a new UK Anastasia Beverly Hills website with free shipping, what better time to treat your loved one?

mulberry

Lambswool Scarf in Macaroon Pink, Mulberry, £125

When it comes to gift giving, I always think it’s best to buy people something they wouldn’t necessarily buy for themselves. Luxury accessories are perfect for this. I know so many people who love scarves, for example, but could never justify spending a lot of money on one for themselves. Hence why I picked out this gorgeous pink one from Mulberry, a favourite brand of mine. It’s subtle, elegant and practical, which is why I think it would be perfect for a mum.

FOR HIM

dw-classic-black-cornwall-40mm-silver-cat

Classic Black Cornwall 40mm, Daniel Wellington, £129

When it comes to any of the men in your life, be it your dad, brother, or partner, they can be tricky to buy for. However, I think this watch by Daniel Wellington is a good shout. It’s beautifully made, sleek and guaranteed to put a smile on his face.

uk-mens-footwear-moriss-contrast-stitching-moccasin-slippers-dark-green-ha6m_moriss_30-dark-green_3

Contrast Stitching Moccasin Slippers Dark Green, Ted Baker, £55

Lets just all take a second to appreciate how cosy these slippers look, you have no idea how much I wish these were available in my size. Ted Baker has always been great at gifts, and they’re always my first stop for inspiration, and when I saw these I just fell in love. I think the tartan with the faux fur is so festive without being in your face. Perfect for any dads out there.

STOCKING FILLERS

5560237040234_000_f

Mobile Lens Kit, Urban Outfitters, £26

For any photography lovers out there, this would be the perfect stocking filler. My boyfriend, for example, works outdoors and is forever taking photos, so something like this would be perfect (I may have gotten him something similar but shhhh, don’t tell him!). I also love that it’s a little bit different, it’s certainly not something I would expect to receive in my stocking and I love a surprise!

5552237040080_066_b

Pixapet, Urban Outfitters, £10

Who remembers tamagotchis? Well meet the new version, pixapets! I remember begging and begging my parents for one when I was little and when I finally got it I was obsessed. It’s always nice to give a present that has some sort of sentimental or nostalgic value, and in all honesty if I was to receive one of these in my stocking this year, I can bet that I would be just as obsessed as I was back then.

I hope this little gift guide has given you some inspiration for your last minute shopping and let me know some of your gift ideas!

My December Wishlist

With Winter well underway, a new season is well and truly upon us, and as always, I have a new list of items that I definitely, 100% NEED in my life.

1.  The Shredded Denim Jacket

shredded-jacket

Back Shredded Denim Jacket True Bleach, Missguided, £40

I have had my eye on this completely impractical denim jacket for a while now, and I adore it. It has that perfect, effortlessly cool look to it and you can just throw it over any outfit; a grey turtleneck, or a white t-shirt, and you have instantly updated your look.

2. The 2-in-1

8225028401_2_1_1

Contrast Full Top, Zara, £25.99

This piece from Zara has been in the back of my mind and bookmarked since the first time I laid eyes on it. I love the mix of the thick knit with the ruffled shirt material at the bottom. The combination of the two creates a feminine hybrid. This can be thrown on with denim, or even black leggings for a quick everyday outfit, perfect for making you look like you’ve made an effort when you’re in a rush!

3. The Khaki Jumpsuit

524f68fe04f28bde403850cc830511db

Cameo Rose Khaki Belted Culotte Jumpsuit, New Look, £12.49

Can we just take a second to talk about culottes? I never thought I’d see the day when I was considering them… they were always a massive no from me. They seemed to be reserved for very slim looking girls, and I’m very curvy. But as time’s gone on, I’ve seen more and more girls rocking culottes and I think maybe I should give them a go. This jumpsuit is perfect for that, it’s not too far out of my comfort zone and paired with a white turtleneck underneath, it makes for the perfect winter outfit. Plus it’s on sale right now so why not?

4. The Forest Green Midi

5120384667153_030_g

Pleated Green Midi Skirt, Urban Outfitters, £52

Midi’s always been an awkward length for me, which puts me off buying midi length pieces. As I mentioned before, I’m very curvy and I have quite stocky legs, which means that midi isn’t the most flattering of lengths. That being said, I can’t resist this skirt – the colour and the pleating is just gorgeous, and I adore the way it’s been styled on the model – with the converse and the grey jumper, which is exactly how I would wear it.

Which items are you itching to add to your winter wardrobe?

PS… Super Matte Liquid Lipstick Review

Anyone who knows me personally will be fully aware that I am a self professed makeup junkie. I love trying out new products and changing up my makeup routine on the daily, that being said, when Primark released their makeup range I was reluctant to give it a go.

When it comes to cosmetics, I’m a sound believer in the concept that high price = high quality. When it comes to putting something on my face, I think high quality products are especially important. However, I did stumble upon a little gem in the beauty section of my local Primark that I thought was worth sharing; The PS… Super Matte Liquid Lipsticks.

We’ve all seen the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits and Jeffree Star’s cosmetics range, they’re everywhere, and for good reason! But I hadn’t heard anything about Primark’s £2 version, and when I found a couple of pretty colours I thought why not give them a go.

1. KIKI

img_3929

PS… Super Matte Liquid Lipstick in KIKI, Primark, £2

Kiki is a stunning deep purple which, on my skin tone looks black. I adore how this looks in photos, it’s just beautiful, and I love how dark and vampy it is. But (and it’s a big but), it just doesn’t last on my lips. The matte formula is so dry that the lipstick flakes off and goes patchy within half an hour. It also dries out my lips and is really uncomfortable to wear… I really would not recommend this to anyone looking for a vampy dark lip for going out, you’ll be in the bathroom all night re-applying!

2. KIM

img_3926

PS… Super Matte Liquid Lipstick in KIM, Primark, £2

Kim, however, is another story. Whilst it does have a very similar matte formula, it’s not quite as drying on the lips. In terms of lasting power, Kim is far superior. I can manage 3-4 hours before having to re-apply, which I really don’t mind considering the tiny price tag. I am also a huge fan of a nude lip and Kim has the perfect amount of pink undertones to prevent me from becoming washed out.

All in all, if you’re looking for a matte lipstick that won’t break the bank, go for Kim. It’s so pretty and it lasts pretty well for a £2 lip product. However, if you’re after a dark lip colour for more than just selfies, I suggest having a look in your local Boots instead.

What are your favourite liquid lipstick brands, and which shades would you recommend?

Paige’s Party Picks

With the much anticipated ‘party season’ steadily approaching, many of us are raking through our wardrobes in search of inspiration and coming out empty handed. Luckily, all of our favourite high street stores are rolling out their party collections and the choices are endless. From sequin minis to fluffy jackets, they have it all.

Below you’ll find my top picks from a few of my favourite brands for party wear.

1. The Motel Rocks Sequin Dress

FINN-DRESS-OPAL-SEQUIN-161240__27708_std.jpg

Finn Slip Dress in Black Opal Sequin, Motel Rocks, £50

Motel Rocks has always been my first stop for party dresses. They have the biggest range of sequin garments I have ever seen, in any colour and style you could ever ask for. This dress in particular is one of my favourites and has been for a while. It’s perfect for your Christmas or New Year parties, just imagining the lights reflecting from the sequins gives me chills.

Pair it with a faux fur jacket and some barely there heels and you have a winner.

2. The ASOS Metallic Suit

16bb37a08e26c87cfda26415ab394840

Ultimate Pink Metallic Suit, ASOS, £100

I’m a massive fan of coordinates that are a little bit “out there”, so naturally I adore this metallic suit from Asos. Paired with a simple white lace cami and beach waves, it would be perfect for any event this coming holiday season. So why not live a little and step out of your comfort zone?

3. The ASOS Velvet Mule

631015fc6ddc4ed9433ba32e9d72368d

HIGHGATE Velvet Plaited Mules, ASOS, £42

As you may have realised by now, statement shoes are a not so secret love of mine. These mules are gorgeous; the placement of the straps will elongate the leg and pink velvet is always a winner in my opinion. The plaited straps are so different to anything I’ve seen before, I couldn’t resist adding these to my party picks. Wearing these to your office Christmas party could cause some serious shoe envy, you have been warned!

So, what do you think of my party picks? Do you have anything to add to the list?
